Bill – who holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lycoming College and a master’s degree in journalism from Temple University – has spent a good portion of his career in nonprofit management. This experience has not been limited to one area of specialization – he has held various positions with increasing levels of responsibility in journalism/public relations, accounting/budgeting and development/fundraising. This includes stints as director of finance for the Educational & Scientific Trust of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and director of college relations for the Penn State College of Health and Human Development.

Bill left Penn State in September 2005 to establish his own consulting firm, Bill Hessert Ink, which provides professional writing and editing services that enable its clients – primarily colleges and universities, government agencies, hospitals and other nonprofit organizations – to meet their assorted marketing, communications and fundraising goals. Services provided include promotional writing and editing; magazine production; grant writing and proposal development; preparation and editing of accreditation/certification materials; speech writing and presentation development; and media training.

Over the past eight years – first at Penn State and then with Bill Hessert Ink – Bill has had the opportunity to work closely with the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health and attend several NOSORH meetings. Not only has this experience enabled him to become familiar with, and develop an appreciation for, the role that state offices of rural health play in improving the health and well-being of America’s rural population; but, it also has enabled him to meet some of the individuals with whom he will be working as NOSORH’s Program Writer/Liaison. Bill believes this familiarity will enable him to “hit the ground running” and begin providing services to the organization more quickly and effectively.
